To promote books in a non promotional way – by honest, unrehearsed opinions. Two episodes a month.
64 episodes of a show, which for 4 seasons managed to stay almost like a personal vlog of Robert Kasprzycki, while teasing new books from Wydawnictwo Literackie.
Technically the situation was simple – one speaker, one camera, light, sound, makeup. The real challenge was to keep it perfect through all 64 episodes in order to enable Robert Kasprzycki ( a well known Polish singer and songwriter, also an avid reader) to focus on what he was talking about off the top of his head. We recorded in a busy book store, and it was particularly hard to concentrate there. We made it possible due to the whole team trusting each other and having fun together.
Each episode had the same formula to keep the audience focused on the books, not on the bells and whistles of the video production. Although repetitive the editing of the series got so streamlined that was really enjoyable.
In season 4 a refresh of visuals was needed. The old one was fine but the client needed something more focused on their books and more universal – not tied to this particular bookstore in which we were shooting the series. The new intro and bumpers aimed to build an aura of excitement and mystery around the series at the same time kept it “neutral” – any book could happen.
We’ve learned how important it is to stay focused and consistent. Together with Robert and the rest of the team we’ve created a “content generating machine”, where perfect execution was a given. We could focus on producing an interesting show and enjoy our time together.
